Signs your vehicle needs a mechanic

Most repairs start as something small that gets worse. Getting a vehicle checked when you first notice a change is usually cheaper than waiting for a breakdown. Book it in if you notice:

• Brakes that squeal, grind, pull to one side or feel soft under your foot
• A warning light on the dash that stays on
• A louder exhaust, a rattle underneath, or a smell of fumes inside the cabin
• Knocks or clunks over bumps, or steering that wanders
• Oil, coolant or other fluid on the ground where you park
• The engine running rough, overheating or using more fuel than it used to

If a WOF inspection turns something up, we can explain what failed and quote the repair. A regular car service is the best way to pick up this kind of wear before it becomes a repair bill.

Finding the fault first

A warning light or a strange noise can have more than one cause, and replacing parts on a guess gets expensive. Our diagnostic tools read the fault codes your vehicle's systems store, which narrows down where the problem is before anything is taken apart. You then get a quote for the repair that fixes the actual cause, not the symptom.

Exhaust and muffler repairs

Exhausts take a beating on rural roads and short trips alike. A blown muffler or cracked pipe is more than a noise problem. The NZ Transport Agency's exhaust noise rules say an exhaust must be no louder than the system the vehicle was built with, and a noisy exhaust can fail a WOF. We repair and replace mufflers and exhaust systems. Where an exhaust has to be made or modified rather than bought off the shelf, that work is done alongside our custom fabrication and welding.

Welding and structural repairs

Because we are an engineering shop as well as a mechanic, repairs are not limited to bolting on new parts. Cracked brackets, damaged mounts and rusted sections can be welded or rebuilt, which suits older vehicles, work utes, trucks, boats and forklifts where a replacement part is hard to find.
